I did discover something interesting about this issue.  It has something
to do with the network connection.  If I try to start NS and it becomes
'invisible' (process, but no window), I can disconnect from my ISP
(close the tun0 connection) and the NS window immediately appears.  Does
this give an evidence where the problem might lie?
