This is somehow interesting. I'm (still) using a FreeBSD 8 system at home and have installed the nVidia driver from ports. The module has been put as /boot/modules/nvidia.ko, and my /boot/loader.conf contains `nvidia_load="YES"' - and this constellation seems to work! The question could be: Has this been changed later on, on FreeBSD 9 or 10? > I (as root) copied nvidia.ko into /boot/kernel, unremmed the line of > nvidia_load="YES", and the system then properly loaded the nvidia module > flawlessly, and "X" came up perfectly. The /boot/kernel directory is usually managed by the "make installkernel" procedure (or freebsd-update, if you use that instead). So an update might bring you some surprise... > Now....being junior with FreeBSD (< 1 year),,,I don't know who to report > the bug to....the nvidia driver maintainer? or...the person responsible > for the loader? I'd suggest to file a bug report for the "kernel" category. If that's wrong, a person with more knowledge will re-address it properly. Or maybe the port maintainer should also be notified? -- Polytropon Magdeburg, Germany Happy FreeBSD user since 4.0 Andra moi ennepe, Mousa, ...
