Well, I think I've done this right, and it wasn't too hard
once I sorted it out.  I won't know for sure until I get a
few other things built (I'm building 4.1-release from scratch
using the new ISO image).

If this does work OK, I think it will be a common enough
issue that the port itself should check for this and give
some helpful pointers/advice/whatever.  I'll try to write
up something useful to add to the port for this, hopefully
this coming weekend.
