I notice in
ftp://ftp.FreeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/4.0-RELEASE/TROUBLE.TXT
The following that seem possibly related to my last message:

Q: FreeBSD claims to support the 3Com PCMCIA card, but my card isn't
recognized when it's plugged into my laptop.

How can I tell whether it "claims" to recognize my 3Com PCMCIA card?
When I ask to install via ftp through firewall I get three choices
which I interpreted as not recognizing it - I think they were
lp, slip, ppp

Q: FreeBSD finds my PCMCIA network card, but no packets appear to
be sent even though it claims to be working.
Similarly, how can I recognize that this is the case?

Thanks.
