I've had this for a while but didn't have time to check it out. Serial output sill be fine if coming from kernel (kernel messages like root logins or cdrom messages). Anything else gets skrewed! I think you are using a wrong baud-rate for the serial connection.
I have to use 9600 at mine to get correct output.
