The Real World consists of much more than the ports tree. The problems that the ports tree has are the only indication that we have about how the rest of the Real World code will fare with our releases. Turn off the silly feature in sort(1) the first place. Let people request it by setting _POSIX2_VERSION=200112 if they want to sort a filename that begins with a +. Or, use 'sort ./+file' like they would already have to do for just about every other unix OS on the planet.
