Did you install the 'X11 Developer' install kit when you installed
FreeBSD and/or XFree86?  If not, you didn't get all the neat little
tools, include files, and libraries you need to be an X11 developer.

Repeat after me:  Disk space is cheap, X is good...   ;^)
