The later releases I installed weren't all that bad. Actually quite smooth. However, it (OpenBSD 2.8) which ran just fine on the testbox, failed to run on the target machine. FreeBSD had no such qualms. Being on a deadline the choice was simple. The more so since, like you, I had/have more hands-on experience with FreeBSD than with OpenBSD. The reason I'd picked OpenBSD was indeed its focus on security. Whether or not that is such a big deal in reality was a moot point. It made for a great marketing USP ;). Also it supports several crypto cards. Though I just received note from one manufacturer that FreeBSD will release drivers too and soon!
