The conclusion would seem to be, 512M ( aka 4x 128) should work according to spec, but you might get lucky with certain 256mb dimm's. The reasons why this luck occurs are currently unknown :). I guess it's almost the same situation as with the symbios 895, of which I have an alpha compatible version. The memory in my 164SX is (iirc) Dane-elec's DP133-07232, which won't help a lot, because dane-elec doesn't seem to publish spec's.
