The main reason for not doing this is to make them conveniently available as part of the data tree to be served via http: URL. The docs could also be copied for access by file: URL at share/docs/wn, but this would be duplication as they can be accessed from the other location. It seems unnecessary clutter to have index and index.cache files in the "share" tree.
