FTP to this directory: ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/FreeBSD-stable/src/lib/ and fetch "Makefile.inc" and also the entire "libz" subdirectory. Then you should be able to chdir into "libz" and build and install the library with the usual "make" incantations. If it doesn't work for you, please let me know.
