We would also like to recognize your work by running an acknowledgement in the book. Please supply us with a brief biography (5-6 sentences) of your professional accomplishments for this purpose. Youve been hired to perform the technical review for this book because of your technical expertise on the subject matter at hand. The technical review process includes a review of the book's outline as provided by McGraw-Hill/Osborne Media Group. Youll also read each chapter as the author submits it, and add your comments on how the information is presented both within a chapter but also chapter to chapter. Your comments should reflect the following: Is the material appropriate for the defined audience? Is the material in-depth enough, or too in-depth? Enough details presented? Info missing in your opinion? Technically accurate? Interesting? We ask technical reviewers to basically ignore language elements (i.e. punctuation, spelling, grammar, etc.) and focus on the technical nature of the material since we have hired a copyeditor who will make a separate pass through the manuscript. If you feel some slight editorial correction benefits the presentation of the material for instance a bulleted list of terms really need more explanation, feel free to make suggestions. And, if you know better ways of presenting data, or a different function or listing that would work better in the same situation, please make a note of it in the manuscript. Remember to review the manuscript for missed points or other developmental issues that would make the book more complete. Please make your detailed comments directly in the Microsoft Word document using comments. To use comments, Click on Insert/Comment in the relevent section of text. Its important to provide comments that are helpful to the author so that he/she will benefit from your expertise, so present your comments in a tactful, clear, and constructive manner. It's one thing to comment "this info is incomplete" and another to comment "please add in a discussion of x and y for a total picture of component z" etc. If you prefer to make you comments directly on the manuscript, please let me know. Follow these general steps for each section you review: 1) Follow the examples in the manuscript step by step. Point out incorrect steps and let us know why and how the step is in error. 2) Check to see if the art (listings, figures, illustrations, tables) corresponds with the references in the text (i.e. if the text says to look for an A prompt and the corresponding piece of art says C prompt, flag it as an error for the author to correct). . 3) Run all the programs in the manuscript, if applicable, and test each line of program code. If any problems arise, identify them. In general, we like to receive technically edited chapters in a 3-day turnaround, unless another arrangement has been made.
