How would I determine whether this is such a machine?

some Dell firmware updates just to see if that makes things any
better.

I'd try current on it and s= ee if that fixes the problem (or doing a test
boot, no need to in= stall the whole thing). But I'm mostly interested
to see how = fast to MFC the fixes.
