Setting STRIP_CMD doesn't appear to do anything. Looking through make debug output suggests it's always setting install(1)'s STRIPBIN to 'strip'. This seems to be doubly-wrong, since that isn't even = the stock fully-qualified STRIP_CMD of '/usr/bin/strip'.
