The Java Advanced Imaging API may be run without any native code, i.e., without the code which provides native acceleration. When run in this manner, the Java Advanced Imaging API uses only Java code. However, the Java Advanced Imaging API has not yet been certified as meeting the requirements of the "100% Pure Java" Program per se. So I'd say you just toss the jars in jre/lib/ext and get going. Of course I haven't done this myself, so YMMV, but anyway...
