Another thing that you can do is assign the necessary ip-address and subnet, etc... via the HP's control panel. I know it's not as savy as bootp, but until you get bootp up and running, it'll allow you to print. Also, remember that you need to set up to printcap entries, one for raw and one for text (for formatted PS/PCL jobs and plain-text respectively).
