FreeBSD doesn't use it anyway. The best idea is to set it to something and leave it. The other thing you might try is putting a small DOS partition on the disk, then removing it in FreeBSD setup and using the whole disk for FreeBSD. I usually see this in problems with booteasy, but if the only disk is dedicated, then you could see this problem.
