Well, it's not exactly a "software house", but PC-NFS was written by
Sun Microsystems. I was dealing with it in the deep dark past, and
all I remember was that it worked, but was somewhat grotty to use, and
exceptionally grotty to set up. But then again, we had a non-standard
network configuration, so that was probably part of it.
