With this release of the nvidia driver, many GPUs have been relegated to
"legacy" status. There are now two legacy branches, the 1.0-96xx series
and the 1.0-71xx series. Take a look at Appendix A of the README for the
1.0.9746 driver:

This port update will no doubt break many people's Xorg setup but more importantly, prevent newcomers from getting a working graphical display.
