I happen to like this one.  Wasn't it suggested by POSIX?

 * This doesn't go in gcc. It goes nowhere or in <unistd.h>.  I'd put
 * it in <unistd.h> and recommend it as the "this is a POSIXised modern BSD"
 * test macro.

If it's safe to "#include <unistd.>" without chicken-and-egging
ourselves again, that's fine for me too.
