I have to vote no on this. This will fundamentally break a majority of systems, for no well defined reason. The clean removal of a single symlink does not justify the pain it will create. If you want to do this in 6-CURRENT, then fine, but leave 5-STABLE alone. Think of this as the equivalent of an ABI change we doesn't happen without really good reason in STABLE. This is not a really good reason. Phil.
