No, do as he told below. Boot from a floppy and issue a command like this: dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/foo foo begin the harddrive device. You can also specify bs and count if you like or just let that run for a few seconds. Then reboot with your preferred installation media. What that does is clears the partitions and whatever you have on the beginning of the disk, forcing size and all other things to be detected properly. I think I used a NetBSD floppy to do this a while ago, because I couldn't do it from a FreeBSD one or something.
