Granted I only selected the default actions but running a subsequent portupgrade still resulted in the same compilation errors. The situation is as follows......... help from the group would be greatly received. My knowledge is limited but we all have to start somewhere right. Anyway xorg ports list looks like this. pkg_info | grep -i xorg linux-xorg-libs-6.8.2_5 Xorg libraries, linux binaries xorg-clients-6.9.0_3 X client programs and related files from X.Org xorg-docs-1.4,1 X.org documentation files xorg-fonts-100dpi-6.9.0_1 X.Org 100dpi bitmap fonts xorg-fonts-75dpi-6.9.0_1 X.Org 75dpi bitmap fonts xorg-fonts-cyrillic-7.3 X.Org Cyrillic bitmap fonts xorg-fonts-miscbitmaps-6.9.0_1 X.Org miscellaneous bitmap fonts xorg-fonts-truetype-7.3 X.Org TrueType fonts xorg-fonts-type1-7.3 X.Org Type1 fonts xorg-fontserver-6.9.0_1 X font server from X.Org xorg-libraries-6.9.0_1 X11 libraries and headers from X.Org xorg-nestserver-6.9.0_1 Nesting X server from X.Org xorg-printserver-6.9.0_2 X Print server from X.Org xorg-server-6.8.99.903_1 X.Org X server development snapshot and related programs xorg-vfbserver-6.9.0_2 X virtual framebuffer server from X.Org pkg_info | grep -i x11 arts-1.5.5,1 Audio system for the KDE integrated X11 desktop gtk-1.2.10_17 Gimp Toolkit for X11 GUI (previous stable version) gtk-2.10.11 Gimp Toolkit for X11 GUI (current stable version) nedit-5.5 An X11/Motif GUI text editor for programs and plain text fi open-motif-2.2.3_2 Motif X11 Toolkit (industry standard GUI (IEEE 1295)) t1lib-5.1.1,1 A Type 1 Rasterizer Library for UNIX/X11 xchat-2.8.4_3 An X11 IRC client using the GTK+ 2 toolkit xine-0.99.4_9 An X11 multimedia player xorg-libraries-6.9.0_1 X11 libraries and headers from X.Org xproto-7.0.10_1 X11 protocol headers xv-3.10a_6 An X11 program that displays images of various formats The pkgdb -F outputs the following and doesn't resolve the following: - pkgdb -F ---> Checking the package registry database Missing origin: hptraid-3.13 Skip this for now? [no] Would fixing any of the Unregisters above fix my problem of xorg 7 compenet compilations failing to find dependances 'fontconfig' or 'xproto' which by looking at my ports list above should be registered as installed. I've had no experience of pkgdb or portupgrade before following the install instructions for xorg in /usr/ports/UPDATING so please excuse any ignorance that may be evident here. A way forward would be appreciated. I was considering doing a make uninstall for each xorg component and running the make install for the latest version of xorg from the ports tree but I'm worried about loosing the ability to run my xserver. Even in this mixed up state I can still start an x session. Ta all for any input.
