Yes.
Please search the archives for my own experience.
Mine was, er, WERE (there have been more than one that have failed in this
manner) also a "newer" IBM drive.
Try a different cable like someone else suggested, but...
Back it up if you haven't been already.
Save for a new one.
Get ready for an RMA.
