I don't see going to two directions at once, let me see what Jordan says
about my last comment. His approach is really at right angles to mine.
If he can come up with some way to allow better control for the ports
builder, then maybe this isn't needed.
I like my way better, but I don't want to force things, since his way
would do the job too, most likely, and has some advantages of it's own.
