I entered the Chinese characters =E4=BD=A0=E5=A5=BD, hexadecimal $'\xE4\xBD=
\xA0\xE5\xA5\xBD'.
In fact that's only for trying, I couldn't enter any Chinese character at a=
ll.=20

I set LC_ALL *after* I login from ssh. Before setting it to *.UTF-8, non-AS=
CII
bytes got translated and echoed back as ^G <BEL> characters.
