  Fix the annoying bug in the configure script where it checks for
  GNU cc, then in the next test if has a look to see if $CC == gcc,
  and ignores the previous result. (argh!!)  Thus, it checks for gcc,
  reports "yes", and then immediately says "Warning, you're not using gcc!"
