I have SHMMAXPGS=1024 in the kernel config (I can probably get away with 512 too) and MAX_ACTIVE_SIZE set to 2097152 bytes in nnrpd/group.c. With an 864K active file and 792K newsgroups file, each in.nnrpd was taking up about 2100K. With sharedactive, they only occupy 300K or less!
