The Micropolis disks seem fine with an NCR controller, and the Adaptecs are OK with a pile of old Sun disks. Symptoms include those you describe, and worse: fsck bombs with an intermittent SIGFPE, a ``make world'' scribbles bits of garbage into the binary of ``make'' (the first thing it builds). Frankly, it's driving me nuts. I would expect that if there were gotchas with Micropolis disks and Adaptec controllers, the folks on freebsd-scsi would know. I'm CC'ing a copy of this there (not to -hackers) in the hope of reassurance or mocking laughter, either of which might provide some guidance. :-) Ian.
