Might be an interesting thread to follow - it's about replacing
Courgette with another algorithm which appearently doesn't suffer from
legal problems.

Hi folks,

We've got an algorithm that is a significant improvement on Google's
Courgette for making small software updates and completely avoids the
Red Bend patent issues (google for Red Bend courgette). I'm trying to
get hold of anyone at Google about how this might help them avoid the
patent concerns. But getting Google contacts is notoriously
difficult. If anyone at Google is listening, drop me a line at
http://brush.co.nz/contact

Many thanks,
Berwyn
