Or perhaps just editing startxfce4 script to have #!/bin/sh -x . The startxfce4 script seems to run the commands in xinitrc, found in .config/xfce4/xinitrc $HOME/.xfce4/.xinitrc or /usr/local/etc/xdg/xfce4/xinitrc . Have a look at it, it might help you in your investigation. If you wish to pursue the further, that is. Best regards Andreas
