Though I am not affiliated with @Home, I have personally assisted about a dozen or so of MY business clients in FreeBSD setups using @Home's service. DHCP (used for dynamically assigning and requesting network addresses and services) is part of the base distributions now, and works rather well. Basically, if you use a supported Ethernet network card, and your cable ISP doesn't use proprietary connection protocols (I'm not aware of any that do, though it was rumoured that @Home's implementation of DHCP is a bit nonstandard--I've never had problems, though), you shouldn't have any problem configuring your cable Internet connection with FreeBSD. I'd rather do a cable install than a PPP install :-) Hope this helps, - Ryan -- Ryan Thompson Systems Administrator, Accounts Phone: +1 (306) 664-1161 SaskNow Technologies http://www.sasknow.com #106-380 3120 8th St E Saskatoon, SK S7H 0W2 To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
