Instead of the above line, use: set dial "ABORT BUSY ABORT NO\\sCARRIER TIMEOUT 5 \"\" ATE1Q0 OK-AT-OK \\dATDT\\T TIMEOUT 120 CONNECT" This will, at least, ensure that you're not being disconnected due to a timeout counter. If this doesn't solve the problem, try a different (newer model) MODEM on your end. MODEM incompatibility was a hallmark of this industry for a long time.
