Either my conner 4326 DAT died at the same time I installed 2.0.5R,
or there is a problem with the ncr driver since then. I don't
know which it is for sure yet, but I am beginning to suspect
2.0.5R.
Here are the symptoms. If I can verify that the drive is ok
I will submit it as bug.
tar -cvf /dev/rst0 /usr
runs for several minutes before "Can't add file: input/output error" messages
start spewing to the screen. Eventually, the load goes very high
(as evidenced by xload), and access to all file systems is lost.
Switching to the console shows continual scrolling of the following
messages:
sd0(ncr0:1:0):COMMAND FAILED (4 28) @f10f2000
Assertion cp==np->header.cp failed file "../../pci/ncr.c",line 5395.
Then either a panic ensues, or hang, if I try to switch back to X.
Dropping into the debugger to generate a dump fails because the
file systems are hosed.
Finally, upon reboot, I have yet to have a problem noticed by
fsck. If I don't use the tape the system has yet to crash
for the last 9 days. Tarring up large chunks of the file
system (using MRS or regular 90m media, 1.2 G file system) tickles
the problem every time.
