I haven't tried the current code drop yet, but I have a number of machines that lock up during device probes because of something broken in ACPI. (I have reported this bug before.) Disabling the ACPI timer code makes these machines boot in 5.0. That should be part of the debugging procedure for any unexplained ACPI boot-time lockups. -GAWollman
