Yes, it will "work", Isn't that what I said? :) I never mess with defaults, but a lot of people do. There should be a comment at the top of /etc/defaults/make.conf that says 'copy this to /etc/make.conf and edit it to taste' like /etc/defaults/rc.conf does. Any commiters around? I'm sure you've got loads of time on your hands with a RELEASE looming...
