That's because I didn't give you all the advice you needed.  When you
sent me follow-up mail explaining why my advice didn't work, I didn't
look closely enough at your message.  Specifically, I didn't notice that
the error was that a header file couldn't be found.

Thus, the advice I _should_ have given you was to add
-I/usr/local/include .
