Are you sure the card isn't autoconfiguring for full duplex or > something like that, killing other packets on the lan ? I have a rtl8139 pci card in my mailserver on a cisco catalyst 2900. I have to set the fullduplex on the rtl8139 by hand, because it never did it right with autonegotiation.
