I've spent much much too long focusing on flags and connection settings, without double checking that the actual basics were alright, because they weren't. I managed to overlook that I hadn't connected the RS232<->TTL adapter to the power supply pin on the board header. Once that was done, everything was fine. So yeah - "basic stuff" indeed. br /jon -- YMMV
