Michael - somehow your machine or ports (NFS?) thinks you're running 4.5-PRERELEASE. On my 4.4 machine the path is: /usr/ports/mail/sendmail/work/sendmail-8.12.1/obj.FreeBSD.4.4-STABLE.i386/ try 'make clean all' and see if that rebuilds it properly.
