Most DVDs are written in UDF format. This format is also used for CD-RW disks by Adaptec DirectCD. At this time there is no FreeBSD support for UDF, although there was a message earlier this year from someone who was going to write it. (I'd love to be able to read the UDF CD-RW disks from my PC.)
