 Have you tried contacting the distribution maintainers of bc,
 <bug-bc@gnu.org>?  The load.c file is still on the BC vendor branch, so
 it'd be nice to get the patch officially approved by them and then apply
 it on the BC branch, with 'cvs commit -r BC load.c'.
