For archival searching purposes:

Intel Ether/10/100
For anyone interested I found that making the following BIOS changes allowed my
fxp driver to function properly during installation. It was freezing quite
nicely prior to these modifications.
In the bios for
Advanced Settings
PCI-Control
Network [enable]
Plug and Play
Plug and Play OS [yes]
I'm pretty sure the second option was the gotcha but the other was changed at
the same time so there it sits.
