actually most cards have two multiplexers/mixers, one routes inputs to the
output/amplifier, the other one routes inputs to the Analog-to-Digital
converter (ADC). The former is generally a real mixer with levels controls
on each source, and it is controlled (on FreeSBSD) with the "mixer"
command. The other one is often a multiplexer, and is the one you
control when you select the ADC source with the same "mixer" program,
or with applications such as "vat".
control with 'vat
