Basically the machine died in a big way (the cooling fan failed, and everything cooked). We went without a replacement primary DNS long enough for the secondaries to expire the data :-(. There is now another machine masquerading as our primary DNS and mailhost, but it has taken much longer than I'd hoped to get a replacement machine going, and I still don't know when it will be done.
