Hi all, I am having problems sending mail to an organization on the internet. The organization is mtna.org. Our freebsd-2.2 based mail server keeps sending me host unknown messages. I have tried to track it down and I think I know what may be causing the problem, and I need some confirmation. The mail exchanger for mtna.org is a machine called mtna_pdc.mtna.org . I vaguely recall a discussion on one of the freebsd mailing lists a few months ago, about the fact that having a hostname with an underscore violates some RFC. I suspect this is the problem I am running into. To test my theory I changed one of the hostnames on my network to a hostname containing an underscore and tried to send mail to it...I got the exact same error message I was getting when I tried to send mail to mtna.org. I then changed the hostname to one which had a dash instead of an underscore, sent mail again , and everything worked fine. Would just like to know if this is indeed the problem, and if so, what the relevant RFC number is so that I can talk to the folks at mtna.org so they can change their host name. Thanks, C.P. ---------------------------------------------- Christian Plazas Columbus State University (706)568-2063
