I start `xdm` in rc.local at boot time and it (sure 'nuff) pops up a login window on the local console as well as manages "remote" sessions by a variety of X servers. My questions are: 1) How can I (or *can I*) set a picture in the root window on the local console while it sits waiting for a user to log in? I'd like to have 'Chuck' sitting quietly under the login dialog so people knew what was under the X-covers. 2) Assuming I can do 1) above, anyone have a pointer to a kewl graphic to use? (I use `xearth` on *my* sessions, so individual sessions don't matter, but on the console I'd like to see some graphic that represents "Powered by FreeBSD". 3) What's the seminal 'X for Dummies" book at which I should be looking? Thanks! ...sjs...
