Yes, I considered that making these compile cleanly would hide them, but it's pretty easy to find them by searching for __alpha__ in supposedly machine independent code. Regarding vfs_rootconf() - Mike has already mentioned to me that the Alpha rootconf etc is scsi specific and needs work to be able to boot from IDE (on systems that have it, eg PC164SX like here). I was hoping to have a proper look at it today after some sleep, but I got hauled out of bed to fix a disk crash on a 1993 vintage system.. (ie: rebuild on a new drive). There are comments in the i386 mountroot code that the NetBSD way of finding root config is better and that we should do it their way. I have not looked yet, but will investigate before starting anything for the Alpha.
