So what's the point of converting base 37 when you don't have an alphabet that can represent base 37? i.e. for what value of buf does strtol(buf, &eptr, 37) return 36? The 36 is not an arbitrary restriction; it's the size of the alphabet that strto* is willing to accept. Please either expand the alphabet or put back the restriction.
