I raised these issue before but got no reply. What are the reasons that VCD patch at http://people.freebsd.org/~luoqi/ is not commited? It's been around for almost two years now and people use it successfully. But reapplying the patch after each cvsup is kind of PITA. I've already asked couple of times on mailing lists and each time I get a bunch of private replies to the effect that "This patch is cursed. People ask for it before every release but nothing happens. Go bug Soren, may be you'll have more luck." It's not that I enjoy bugging people... Yes, I can understand that this patch might have technical objections (like creative use of a gap that compiler leaves to align struct members) - but I haven't seen those reasons articulated. If /dev/acd*t* is going to be the answer then can this be stated directly, please, to cut the confusion. BTW, as I wrote just few days ago, acd*t* support was MFC'ed but relevant changes to MAKEDEV to create those devices were not. > severe problems with -current after SMPNG that's why nothing has > been committed yet... But can you, please, give us at least a glimpse of hope, some token that you listen to us, mere mortals. PS: I've been carefully teaching my 8 years old that Unix is good and Windows is "for dummies"(TM) - first with Ultrix on uVAX2k, then with NetBSD/sparc on SS1. Now that I have to boot from FreeBSD to win9x just to let him watch few toons VCD's this good reputation is eroding slowly. :-( SY, Uwe -- uwe@ptc.spbu.ru | Zu Grunde kommen http://www.ptc.spbu.ru/~uwe/ | Ist zu Grunde gehen To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
